Our Method

Naught creates plans that tie together media and interest groups as drawings and renderings in order to build a new smarter ecologically and economically integrated and sustainable city.  In order to do so, we develop teams tailor-made to a client’s needs.  We coordinate, embellish, and manage what disparate sectors are already doing based on the premise that only through such unlikely coordination can a new city be created.  We offer a unique vision and path of execution for the future of the city that is profitable and beautiful.  We provide the design and management services required to make it a reality.  We will help your company to become not just get a part of the smart city market, but a leader.

We are currently focused on serving real estate developers, community development corporations, digital product developers, digital service providers, private home owners, local government, product developers, foundations, legacy companies, philanthropists, banks, construction companies, venture capital, media companies, filmmakers, artists, galleries, publishers, local transportation authority, private companies that make a spatial product, companies that want unique art events, restaurants and clubs, farmers and food producers, bakeries and cafes, and cultural and educational institutions.

Our Strategy

When implementing a particular project for our clients as part of a broader plan, we employ the following strategies:

• Focus on specific swaths rather than the territory as a whole.

• Zone based on bundled / related services; while, at the same time, respecting traditional differences in scale between residential, commercial, and industrial.

• Coordinate between micro and macro as well as the constituencies that are associated.

• Present the process as a play-book / catalogue / argument / master plan that addresses the situation from multiple angles and is a record of what has already happened and what might come.

• Offer management services through all phases of development that coordinate resources and demand and streamline the process at a central point.

• Allow the work to take place between realms and addressed to different audiences –  working behind the scenes, allowing particular stakeholders to get credit for positive change.

• Create sites of wonder and entertainment within the overall plan as portals to the unknown that inspire the community and create orientation within the site.

• Construct as much as possible from existing structures while adding modular ecologically sustainable structures.

• Create structures and infrastructure that can be added to in the future rather than requiring all investment to occur upfront.

• Building durable simple structures can support different programs over time is desirable and is an affective use and continuation of the modern discourse – particularly as a long awaited reckoning with the real material legacy of the industry that made modern possible.

• Allow the land to be attached to a particular capacity that can be changed over time based on investment and that the more inventive one is, the more that can be generated.  This is especially true if the inventiveness is supported by a wide range of constituents across media.

• Rely on the wisdom of building for buildings sake as a way of training those involved.
